The DNA Player produces a visual and aural representation of DNA from a raw DNA file. If you have taken a DNA test (e.g. with Ancestry or MyHeritage), you can download your raw DNA file and play it here. If you don’t have one, you can play the sample file (mine).
Sequences from the 22 chromosome pairs - plus the X and Y chromosomes and mitochondrial data - are played in parallel, the coloured blobs indicating the the alleles at each position: A - red, C - green, G - blue and T - white. The sounds are computed from the distribution of A, C, G and T across all chromosomes at each step. It can take up to 8 hours to play a complete DNA file!
In case you’re worried about security, the player works locally in your web browser - your DNA isn’t being transmitted across the internet.
